Brighter Futures for Children of Prisoners

mentoringheader

"College Is For Me Too!" is a unique and proven 2-day yearly summer education camp held at University of California, Irvine or California State University, Fullerton for our mentees (ages 11+) so they can experience a college setting and the joy of learning with inspiring college student mentors/volunteers. The results over the past 6 years have been heartwarming, based on observations and post surveys. The motto "College is For Me Too!" is gradually evolving into a reality for these children.

Summer Education Camp Components:
A Real-Life College Experience: A 2 or 3-Day experience of what it means to be an active college student. Multi-faceted curriculum: The agenda designed by AOT Directors includes STEM presentations & activities, fitness/sports, inspiring guest speakers, awards and more. Support & Follow-Up: All On Track Camp graduates continue to receive support and encouragement from their mentors as well as from America On Track.

STEM component:
Science is the one subject that encompasses everything in life and helps students become curious, ask questions, and make connections as to why the world exists as it does. Children of prisoners in general tend to have low grades in the various sciences as well as a lack of interest. With this in mind America On Track has created fun, interactive, bi-monthly STEM workshops for our children of prisoners.

Additionally, because it is clear that most jobs of the future will require a basic understanding of math and science—10-year employment projections by the U.S. Department of Labor show that ¾ of the 20 fastest growing occupations will require a solid knowledge base in the STEM areas. Our America On Track STEM component is preparing these children to compete and discover a brighter future.
